DIALOGUES WITH TREELINE TALENTS: Layers of Architecture & Nature in Art

The first virtual dialogue hosted by Treeline Urban Resort, Siem Reap, to bring together our creative community and showcase talented Cambodian artists to open our minds to new perspectives.
Featuring Ero Prum, Kanha Hul and Vitou So, and moderated by Lyno Vuth, the dialogue discusses the practices of the three artists in relation to architecture and nature that manifest in various forms. Ero, Kanha and Vitou received the 2020 Treeline Artist Grant and exhibited their amazing works at Treeline in the group exhibition "Invisible Voices" back in February 2021.
The conversation explores the artistic process and strategy of each artist in dealing with their concerned topics: architectural heritage, environmental ecology, and community relations. Thoughtfully questioned by Lyno with his deep-rooted experience in the Cambodian contemporary art scene, the prominent young artists discuss the interconnectedness of relationships within naturally occurring and human made environments in their works. The three artists open up about their unique expression of complex relationships that prevailed in their chosen environments, from nature-built architectures like coral reefs to human-made landscapes like rice fields, and human-built architectures taken over by nature like the moss colonies found on ancient temples.

Speakers Biographies:
Ero PRUM is a documentarian who focuses on digital photography and videography as a form of preserving history and memory, and to caution us of what may happen in our future. His works are based on nature, architectural landscapes and the process of forming information to serve as an archive for present and future use. Currently, he lives and works in Phnom Penh.
Kanha HUL is an artist and she is currently pursuing her English Language degree at university. Kanha considers art essential to her soul as a mode of self-expression and a reflection of society. Her works propose an exchange between respective roles in society and its representation as self-reflection. Her multidisciplinary artwork mainly incorporates photography with painting, paper cutting, and stencil techniques. Currently, she lives and works in Siem Reap.
Vitou SO is an architect and artist with interests in architecture, space, culture, and memory. Vitou has been practicing as an architect in a local Cambodian firm, HKA & Partners, for four years, where he also has had the opportunity to collaborate with other artists on various art projects. As an illustration artist, he has developed several personal projects based on observations of art and vernacular architecture through traveling. Currently, he lives and works in Phnom Penh.
Lyno VUTH is an artist, curator and educator interested in space, cultural history, and knowledge production. His artworks often engage with micro and overlooked histories, notions of community, place-making, and production of social relations. He works across various media, including photography, video, sculpture, light, and sound, often constructing architectural bodies as situations for interaction. He introduces human stories and knowledge within these installations by drawing on a wide range of materials such as original interviews, artifacts, and newly made objects.

DIALOGUES WITH TREELINE TALENTS: How to Navigate between Art & Design
A virtual dialogue featuring Dalin PRAK, Siden KONG, and Tyl KAN. Moderated by Sopanha KHAM

This second virtual dialogue hosted by Treeline Urban Resort, Siem Reap, brought together multi-disciplinary talents across Cambodia's creative community to discuss how they navigate art and design in their artistic practices and growth as they establish their distinctive voices as rising artists.
Featuring architect and artist Dalin PRAK, interior designer and artist Siden KONG, creative director and digital artist Tyl KAN, and moderated by spatial designer and artist Sopanha KHAM, the dialogue opens up how the three artists define and distinguish art and design given their distinctive backgrounds and practices using different mediums, and the roles they believe art and design play in society and their social impact. Dalin, Siden and Tyl are 3 more young artists who received the 2020 Treeline Artist Grant and exhibited their amazing works at Treeline in the group exhibition "Invisible Voices" back in February 2021.

Speakers Biographies:
Dalin PRAK is an architect and artist with experience working in an architecture firm for 2 years. As an artist and architect, she uses construction material to create sculptures that also appear as architecture structural, which focuses on the impact of city development. Her works are inspired by nature and the process of conveying visual art and installation. She experiments with the different art media and focuses on unconventional aspects of the material to convey her voice. Currently, she lives and works in Phnom Penh.
Siden KONG is a talented artist and interior designer. His work as an artist focuses on human and the environment while expressing feelings of loss, hesitation and wondering about something that may not happen or even exist. He primarily worked with photography before stepping out of his comfort zone to experiment with different mediums for his artwork in the "Invisible Voices" group exhibition at Treeline Gallery where he showcased the series "Symbolism" made from flat metal cuts. Currently, he lives and works in Phnom Penh.
Tyl KAN is a creative specialized in painting, digital illustration, 2-D animation and art direction. Her versatility allows her the opportunity to expand her creativity across several mediums. She focuses on human’s emotions, behaviors, nature, identity and what impacts the mental well-being. Her artwork explores concerns surrounding mental health and it also raises questions to encourage conversation and social change. Currently, she lives and works in Phnom Penh.
Sopanha KHAM is a passionate spatial designer and artist, and our moderator for the dialogue. Sopanha's practice in art focuses on architectural and cultural identity and its relationship with society. Her works are multidisciplinary and experimental that ranges from zine workshops, installations, films and collages. Having lived abroad, her works often question her identity and place of belonging as a diaspora. She’s very passionate about art and design and sees it as keys in moving forward to healing our current society from our collective traumas.
