Community

Community is part of the DNA of Treeline, it is part of our concept. We root ourselves in our community by way of design, empowerment of our team and through community engagement with local partners, community initiatives and encouraging our guests to also visit sustainable and ethical businesses supporting the local community and economy. Whether it be by sourcing products and produce locally, donating or volunteering with reputable organisations that empower Cambodians, visiting activities and businesses that provide jobs or opportunities to locals, that protect and actively improve the environment and that contribute positively to our community.

Community is fundamental, it’s what makes Siem Reap and Cambodia so special. A supportive, engaged and caring community helps ensure long-term economic, social and environmental survival along with cultural preservation and sustainable development.

  • Sourcing our locally grown, chemical-free vegetables and herbs from Happy & Co. Farm, an organic agriculture set-up on the fringes of Siem Reap
  • Commissioning local ceramics from Loyuyu to help design and create all of Treeline’s hand-crafted ceramics, from the vases, amenity containers, trays, tissue boxes and planters in our guest rooms to the oil burners, bottles and decorative pieces in SURI Spa and the dinnerware in all of our restaurants
  • Creating a line of bespoke spa products made onsite by our talented and dedicated team at SURI Spa. We use only natural, locally sourced and, when possible, organic ingredients of the highest quality. Reinforcing our spa menu are top-of-the-line products, from body and massage oils to body scrubs, by Sâmata, a Phnom Penh-based health and wellness studio.
  • Sourcing our in-room amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand wash, body lotion, mosquito spray, room spray) from local, natural cosmetic company, Kambio
  • Employing water hyacinth weavers working with the local NGO and eco-tourism project Osmose to produce our bin covers. Osmose delivers much-needed environmental conservation initiatives throughout the Tonle Sap – the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia – as well as support to the families living in the floating villages of this remote part of Cambodia
  • Supporting a number of micro businesses in Siem Reap. A local wood carver, from Sray Srong, makes the palm wood items in the hotel, while our take-away containers are made by local villagers from palm leaves
  • We partner with local NGO’s and training schools that provide training opportunities to underprivileged, providing internships to them during their training year. 70% of our team are graduates from these schools. Haven, Spoons, SalaBai

We also participate in a number of initiatives to support the local community and manage the environmental impact of tourism in Siem Reap, including:

  • Tree planting along the riverside and throughout the city
  • Initiating the Clean Up Siem Reap Campaign – regular, organised clean up days of Siem Reap that see participants collect rubbish and educate the community along the way
  • The sponsorship of various environmental campaigns including Plastic Free Cambodia, Clean Green Cambodia and Ocean Recovery Alliance (responsible for many projects abroad, but here they are ridding the Tonle Sap of plastic)
  • Annual sponsorship of the Giant Puppet Project and provide Treeline Artist Grants to upcoming and artists through our KMH Foundation
  • Regular fundraising support and sponsorship to several local NGOs and community events for Ponheary Ly Foundation, Angkor Hospital for Children, Kantha Bopha Childrens Hospital, The Giant Puppet Parade, Tini Tinou and Phare Arts Festival
  • Part of the community initiative Collective for Good, a collection of sustainable, ethical and community-minded businesses, we encourage you to go to visit these organisations and businesses during your stay in Siem Reap. Haven, Wild, Heartprint Hub, Phare, Jomno, Off Track Tours, Lemongrass Spa

"We want to leave things better than when we started and make a positive contribution."
